Despite its bizarre appearance, Dicranurus was a trilobite.

The many, long and very well-developed spines covering every part of its body may be assumed to have been this animal’s means of defence against predators like the ‘recently’ evolved jawed fish.

When Dicranurus rolled up, the spines stuck out in all directions, keeping the predator at bay.
