The distinctive features of this skull are the sabre-shaped canine teeth, and the six horns. These gave the name to this extinct order of hooved herbivores, Dinocerata, ”terrifying horns”. The small cheek teeth indicate that the animal fed on soft leaves.

These rhinoceros-like animals were the first very large plant-eaters to evolve after the Cretaceous mass extinction. They could be up to three metres long and weighed about 2.5 metric tons. Fossils of Uintatherium have been found in Asia and North America. They died out more than 35 million years ago.
