Encrinurus, a small trilobite with a large head, may have fed on plankton filtered out of the water or microorganisms from the bottom sediment.

On its head were a large number of knobbly excrescences that presumably served as sensory organs and to protect the animal against predators. The strong spines on the rear end of the body also provided protection against predators.
