Canadaspis was among the most abundant animals in the Burgess Shale fauna. It had a large bivalve (two-part) shell, enclosing most of its body, and two pairs of antennae. The many short legs were used to scratch up the top layer of the sea bed as it looked for small animals and other edible items.

Canadaspis may have been closely related to crustaceans.
