Olenoides, a trilobite genus, had a hard, calcareous shell on its back and was therefore easily fossilised.

On the underside of the shell it had two rows of legs, all branching. The inner, thin branches were used for walking and the outer, filamentous (feather-like) ones for swimming.

Olenoides was a predator that caught its prey and crushed it between its legs.
