Peronochaeta was a genus of annelids similar to our modern earthworms.
Along both sides of the body, Peronochaeta had outgrowths bearing many tiny spines or bristles. These may have helped to propel it over the sea bed as it slithered along or as protection against predators.
Peronochaeta may have been a scavenger, feeding on dead animals on the sea floor.
