Hylonomus had tiny, sharp teeth and fed on invertebrates like millipedes or insects.
This earliest known reptile laid eggs with amniotic fluid and shells that prevented drying-out. This meant that it could reproduce on land, rather than needing to lay its eggs in fresh water.
