Haplophrentis was a hyolith, a kind of extinct mollusc with a tube-shaped shell which could be closed by a small lid. Two curved spines on the sides stabilized the shell on the seafloor. It is not known for certain what hyoliths fed on but they may have filtered their food from the sea water.
