The shell of Graftonoceras was coiled in a flat spiral and had many ridges, making the animal a slow swimmer. It may be assumed to have spent most of its life in sheltered spots on or near the sea bed, among the corals and sponges of the reef.

Graftonoceras, a predator that fed on small organisms, was one of the last cephalopods of its type.
