Tremanotus was a primitive snail with a symmetrically coiled shell.
In the adult animal, the shell opening expanded into a broad funnel, giving the shell stability when Tremanotus crawled over the sea floor looking for algae to feed on.
Sensory organs may have been located on the small openings along the back of the shell but, because all gastropods have their anus above the head, the anal opening may have been there too.
